Shou Sugi Ban (焼杉板) aka Yakisugi är en flera hundra år gammal teknik, som ursprungligen grundades av japanska snickare på 1700-talet.  År 1700 var japanska "snickare" -kända som förkolnade snickare, japanska snickare. "Sugi" - används för konstruktion. Olika hus' förkolnade träbeklädnader och staket byggs i västra Japan, där denna teknik var viral, på grund av dess anmärkningsvärda hållbarhet.
